Senior Results Round 9
The league girls put a strong outfit against a unpredictable Henley. We held our composure well and all players contributed to the teams win. Good passing led to strong swings through the middle and plenty of outside options. Maintaining composure in the tight third set today and focusing on intent and intensity are key heading into the back end of the season and stronger oppositions.

Division 1 Men
After a pre game mystery of "Will the match be started on time", the South Div1 men took on Adelaide Uni. With Dyl and Sticks arriving right on the buzzer, we made a strong start to the first set with strong serving by Kelly, and aggressive hitting by the outsides. We took the first set 25-16. The boys were able to carry the momentum into the second set. While the first part of the set was closer, they were able to push through and take the second 25-18 Mental tougness escaped us in the third, in what was a disappointing performance across the board. We allowed AU to get the jump on us and couldn't fully recover. After a couple of changes we remembered who we were and rallied in the back end of the set to build back some confidence but lost the set 11- 25. The fourth set showed an improved performance and we looked more in control, with some impressive play from Tom. We closed the set 25-22 with an Ace from Kane, to take the win in 4. Overall, we played 3 great sets of volleyball. As a group, we continue to work on our focus and ability to recover quickly if we make an error
Division 1 Women
Another balmy morning greeted the South Div. Women as they faced Adelaide Uni for round 10 in the shed at Lofty. Coach decided to use the morning as an acclimatization session for his upcoming trip to NZ, but immediately regretted the decision to wear shorts as the temp. barely rose above freezing. There was nothing cold about the South girls’ start as they raced away with the first set thanks to some cunning work through the middle by Paris ‘Utility’ Francis and Hayley 'HJ’ Johnson. The second set started in similar fashion as Uni had no answer for a firey Hayley 'Westy’ Weston serving run which blew the set wide open. Feet were the theme for the set as Weston and captain Vic 'cold skin’ Sumnall combined for some creative 'feet’ kills and Francis demonstrated her ability to use her boot to save a ball. The third set was all about the team’s young guns as Christine 'CC’ Chowles showed she is growing rapidly as an attacking option and Miah 'Thorpeedo’ Thorpe controlled the back court with great skill and reflexes. While Ella 'Mac-attack’ MacCauley had the Uni girls wishing they had taken a gap year with her accurate and powerful serving setting up many points for South. Not even a vicious attack by the giggle monster on Johnson midway through the set could stop South taking a strong 3-0 win. Result: 3-0 win, one giggle monster attack, 2 hours thawing out.
Division 2 Men
In a game that the boys described as "lackluster" our div 2 men fell to their first straight sets loss. The boys lost their aggression in the first 2 sets but showed a glimpse of our brand of volleyball in the last set. Hopefully we can find our feet again next round and bring back the momentum heading into finals.
The league boys steadied the ship this week after losing our last three outings. Henley played much better than their ladder position would suggest and pushed us all the way. Kap wad back to his best leading the game in attack and Bawhey was very good in reception and defence. After losing the first we went 2-1 up. Henley closed and we ended up at 10 all in the 5th set. Bowen came on as a serving sub to try and close out the match and performed his role excellently putting in a bunch of pressure serves and making some great digs helping us secure the fifth set and the match. We have Saturday off and look to play Austral next Tuesday night at their home courts. while they sit bottom of the table their lone win does come in our last match up so the league boys will be keen to right the previous mistakes of that outing.
